Bordeiro is situated just 4km to the north of the town of Góis, in a broad, fertile valley. The Ribeira Celavisa runs through the village during the spring and winter months, babbling under the little packhorse bridge. At the centre of Bordeiro is a delightful open square that basks in sunshine all year round. This is the festa area, with the bandstand built over the stream, and the chapel linked to the large quinta (big house) on one side of the square. On the other side is the old padaria (bakery), next to the café-bar. Behind the square, narrow streets run up a gentle rise towards the school on the hill. The village still has its primary school open, playing an important part in community life. There is evidence to show that the old Roman road from Góis to Arganil runs through Bordeiro, and it was also on the old pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela.
