Sheltered in a secluded valley, Cerdeira is a mixture of old and new traditional houses. As you enter the village, you go by the chapel and festa area, before the road drops steeply into the centre of the village.
Cultivated land and fruit orchards extend away from the village with two large wells providing water for irrigation. A network of narrow streets lead down between the houses, amongst which can be found small courtyards, some with hens scratching among the cobbles. It is reassuring to see that people are returning to Cerdeira, having retired from the city, with enthusiasm for the rural way of life.

Póvoa da Cerdeira is a collection of mostly modern houses, on either side of the road from Góis to Pampilhosa de Serra. It boasts a friendly café-restaurant “Alfonso”, run by a local family. As the road runs along the ridge, there are panoramic views between the trees to both the north and the south.
