The village of Povorais is situated on the west side of Pena de Góis. At an altitude of 780m it is the highest village in the Góis region.
The single tarmaced road passes through a tunnel of mature spruce trees, that opens up into a pretty rustic village with panoramic views.
The village is a mixture of old and new houses, some clustered along the main street, the others along footpaths and tracks to the east of a narrow piece of cultivated land.
On the hillside above the village is the Casa de Povo (community centre), which was once the school, and the wash-house - still used by the residents of the village.
