The little hamlet of Farroiba sits on the hillside above the river Sótão looking across towards Santo Velho and Terras. The only road access comes from the village of Monteira. The hamlet consists now of two beautifully restored stone houses. In the past Farroiba was famous for the many cherry trees that used to grow here - now there are apple trees and vines, and mimosa and eucalyptus trees ‘sing’ (i.e. make eerie creaking noises!) in the heat of the afternoon.
