Vale de Oleiros lies on the side of a little valley below Campelo. The hamlet consists of two occupied houses and a small collection of former houses, now ruined. Vale de Oleiros – that literally means ‘Valley of the Potters’ – takes its name from the clay-beds that can be found in the valley. There are also outcrops of sandstone that have been quarried to provide building material. It is likely that the sandstone was worked in the medieval period, and possibly the Roman period, as it is one of a handful of locations where the stone occurs.
