Description of Property:
A remarkable property being offered for sale. The land is on both sides of the river Ceira and contains one of the most beautiful river locations in the region.
Contained within this property are: the ruins of an old farm directly above the gorge; a xisto cottage, built into the hillside; 2 derelict corn-mills; a second ruined cottage on the far side of the river; 2 access roads on to the land; a footbridge; over 1000m of river bank with good trout fishing; 9000m2 of flat arable land; and substantial areas of terraced hillside and forested hillside. The property also has an old gold-mine and a water-mine.
At the centre of the property there is a river gorge, waterfall and a large deep pool that provides an excellent swimming area. There is also a tunnel, cut to provide water for one of the mills.
The history of the property is also fascinating. Half a century ago the river gorge was cut by hand to divert the river from its historic course, freeing up land for agriculture. Over 1,000,000 tons of earth and rock were moved to create the agricultural land. On the hillsides around the property and on the small hill at the centre of the property there are ledges cut into the rock that used to accommodate the many beehives of the quinta.
